One of the best investments that you can make in yourself is create a home-based business. I was a teacher for years and with the tax structure in my country (Canada) and in the US as well, I know that my pay check kept getting smaller and smaller.  Because I was in such a high tax bracket, not only did I reach my maximum salary after a few short years because of my graduate degrees, but my biggest expense was taxes.
