ANXIETY is more common than most of us know. It has been said that anxiety has affected 1 in 10 people. I am not sure where that statistic comes from but that is a lot of people.
Considering that our news is full of fear and most peoples constant attention to negative things, it does not surprise me that a whole lot of people have suffered or are suffering from anxiety.
There was a time when I experienced anxiety regularly. And out of that experience and my work as a teacher/counselor &psychologist, I have learned some things I would like to share with you. I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorder at one point in time. This was combined with depression to make a mix of all sort of feelings and symptoms. In fact it is common for depression and anxiety to be combined.
Anxiety feels like fear on wheels. It is similar to fear except it is more intense. One might call it “running fear.” Our heart may race faster and we may feel out of control.
Anxiety almost always has to do with a present situation that is very challenging, combined with a past situation
that has been triggered. Thus, it makes the anxiety much more intense because you are not only dealing with
the present but also the past.
Challenges like public speaking, exam writing, relationship stresses, work pressures, money issues, grief etc. can lead to a sense of worry, or fear that is intense and over a prolonged period of time it becomes anxiety.
There are all kinds of names given to anxiety and these can include anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social phobia anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder anxiety, anxiety panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder or phobias. These are just labels given that have similar symptoms but ultimately are related to anxiety.
Children and adults alike experience anxiety.
Some people would say that these intense feelings that arise called anxiety happen for no reason at all. I would agree that it may seem so at times but this is just NOT the case.
Any kind of negative emotion is always associated with an experience either from the past or the present or both. When we give attention to a negative feeling topic for a prolonged period of time, the practice of this kind of thinking creates the anxious feeling. Anxiety is practiced fearful thoughts in motion. Of course anxiety can affect every aspect of our lives because we take our emotions with us everywhere. The reason anxiety feels so bad is because the thoughts attached to it are NOT TRUE. The negative feelings are our guidance system letting us know we are going the wrong way towards our happiness with these thoughts. You can read more about our inner guidance system by reading the article on this blog with this title.
Our physical health can be affected by anxiety. In fact our physical health is affected by all negative emotion. If we do not know what is happening and it continues over a long time, it will get worse, creating even more symptoms with more severe repercutions to our well-being.
In my case, my anxiety was connected to a present life situation, the death of my husband. When he died, old events from my past got triggered, to make it an even more difficult and intense experience. At that time, I did not know what to do about it but I remember it to be the most challenging time of my life.
ANXIETY IS THE RESULT OF SUSTAINED “SLOPPY THINKING” and it can be combined with “old stuff” having been activated.” It is important to emphasize that no one purposefully chooses anxiety or depression or any such thing. But so many of us have been so practiced at thinking negatively that over time it gets worse and worse in terms of signs and symptoms.
WHAT TO DO ABOUT ANXIETY?
A.) I was treated initially for my anxiety with drugs. I think it was ativan and what I noticed is that it was very helpful to calm me down and yet I knew that I did not want to be dependant on a chemical drug for relief. I was a psychologist and so of course knew all of the side-effects that could occur. I also knew that this kind of intense feeling was not normal. It was not who I really was and I was determined to get to the bottom of it.
B.) And then, I found a herbal bach remedy called “RESCUE REMEDY” which was a god-send to me. For a while I drank bottles of this amazing product. It was very quick and effective in calming my anxiety in the moment.
Throughout this time I was seeing a very competent psychiatrist, who appeared baffled by my recurring anxiety and depression. It went on for quite some time.
C.) Another method that gave me temporary relief was a method of therapy called INSTANT EMOTIONAL HEALING. This method teaches people how to calm yourself using accupressure points. The authors of the book by this name are George Pratt and Peter Lambrou. I found it very helpful in the moment of my anxiety to calm myself.
What I like about this book is it shows you clearly what accupressure points to touch to help you with many negative emotions.
D.) At long last, I discovered a book written by Brandon Bays, called ‘THE JOURNEY.” In this book it describes how past events can be stored in the body and get activated at certain times. Of course it made sense to me that all of our cells would hold memories and emotions. Being a counselor, I knew, of course, that past negative events can affect the present but here was a method that helped people release these past events forever, even transforming them in ones mind into the kind of experience one would have liked. I immediately went to a trained person in
JOURNEY WORK and after one session, it took the lid off of my depression and any existing anxiety. I knew intuitively that this would help in all of my difficulties. I became obsessed with clearing out any and all ‘old stuff.” For most adults this can be quite a lot of stuff because we have lived a lot of life. I became so excited about how effective it was that I went and got trained in this work. Part of my work now is as a Journey Work therapist.
You can learn more about Journey work by reading other articles written on this blog entitled “WHAT IS JOURNEY WORK?” and “CLOSING THE GAP BETWEEN WHERE YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU WANT TO BE” and “OUR EMOTIONS: OUR GUIDANCE SYSTEM.”
E.) After clearing out my anxiety and depression with Journey work, I came in touch with a NUTRITIONAL CLEANSING SYSTEM that helped to enhance my health even more. I discovered that most of us are mineral deficient and this nutritional cleansing system brought those much needed minerals back into my body (pesticides actually destabalize minerals in our fruits and veggies in our soils). I went on the ISAGENIX 30 DAY CLEANSE and after that cleanse I felt like a new woman. I had recovered my health to the point that I felt like a
teenager again. I lost weight and I felt no stress anymore, I even began to jog again which I had not done since my 20s. To this day, I still take these products each and every day. They are the foods that I eat the most.
F.) After discovering Isagenix products, I then got led to the teachings of the LAW OF ATTRACTION BY JERRY AND ESTHER HICKS. And it was here that I realized at last, I had control over my health and well-being and over my life. I have learned how to be a DELIBERATE CREATOR, with these teachings. In learning about the law of attraction and how to use this knowledge to our advantage, I could now guide my life into whatever I wanted to BE, DO OR HAVE, through my thoughts and emotions.
I have come to the conclusion after all my training and my own personal experience that ALL ILLNESS AND NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS are connected to our thinking and our emotions. If we are worried and overwhelmed and rest in this state a lot, it can and will develop into this that we call depression and/or anxiety or an other myriad of illnesses.

This post is very usefull thx!
I am so glad
Thank you for the helpful information. I was struck by the recognition that children can be anxious. So often we hear about children being ‘badly behaved’ and receiving anger management classes at school. It makes me wonder if we do enough for the withdrawn or nervous children…..the ones who are never going to ‘shout loudly’….the anxious ones.
You are welcome, I am glad it was helpful. Whether it is a child or an adult who experiences anxiety, it is the same thing, focusing one’s thoughts on things that do not feel good. And if you do this over a long period of time the anxiety just gets worse……so learning to guide our thoughts into places that feel good is our work.
The primary point I don’t know the way to deal with is this one comment this girl in my school made, “When you are pleased, you annoy me. When you’re casual, you bore me.”
Your friends comment is about her and not you. Just let it go and know that it is a reflection of how she views herself. You know who you are, amazing and beautiful and smart. Focus on those things that make YOU feel great……….Joanie
Hi, colleague! I love your blog, it’s so interesting! I hope it is popular, this is information that we can all learn from.
Why thank you. I appreciate your kind words!
My friend referred me to your blog, so I thought I’d come have a read. Very interesting material, will be back for more!
Hi, your blog page is very informative & artistic in it’s style. Thanks!
Joanie,
Thank you for this post! I think so many people live with constant anxiety and don’t even know it. I was one of those for many years. I have found that EFT (maybe similar to the accupressure technique you mentioned) is a fabulous tool for clearing anxiety and using EFT together with Law of Attraction principles is powerful. I thought some of your readers might also find this tool helpful. I appreciate so much all your posts. They really resonate for me. Thank you.
Rebecca
Hey Rebecca, thanks for your comments. Yes I think that EFT is similar to the Instant Emotional Healing. Isn’t it wonderful to have so many options for freedom these days.
Hey there, great work on this blog. You have worked hard on it. Thanks for sharing it all.
Good luck and cheers!
You are welcome. A pleasure, I have fun sharing what I know.
When anxious I have found it helpful to do some deep breathing with my shoulders relaxed not hunched. This simple exercise combined with turning my thoughts to something positive helps greatly. I love to focus on something in nature like flowers or a beautiful view. The flowers need not be present merely in my thoughts.
Love your blog Joanie. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Cynthia, and yes for sure breathing deeply and thinking of something lovely is very helpful.
